Each of the three works on this second release in the Jerwood series, conducted by Martyn Brabbins, contains a prominent solo role. Morgan Hayes’ Dark Room features the clarinet, the cello is the soloist in Dai Fujikura’s Fifth Station, and two ondes martenots step into the limelight in smear, by Jonny Greenwood.
This release is part of the London Sinfonietta’s 6-volume Jerwood Series, focussing on recent works by young composers working in the UK. The series also celebrates the support the ensemble has given these composers: most of the works were commissioned by or written for the ensemble, and were recorded live at world or London premiere performances.
