[New Music Biennial - Live Recording]
At the age of 17 Mark Simpson became the first ever winner of both BBC Young Musician and BBC Proms/Guardian Young Composer of the Year. In 2015 he was appointed Composer in Association of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. Impressed by Mark’s high profile appointment as the BBC Philharmonic’s new Composer-in-Association, as well as critical acclaim following his latest premiere of a large scale oratorio at the Manchester International Festival, this new work by Mark forms the centrepiece of the Gould Piano Trio’s 25th anniversary celebration.
After Avedon is a reaction to four photographs by the influential American photographer Richard Avedon.
1. The Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Waldorf Astoria, Suite 28A, New York, 1 April 1957
2. Ronald Fischer, Beekeeper, Davis, California, 9 May 1981
3. Francis Bacon, artist, Paris, 11 April 1979
4. Peter Orlovsky and Allen Ginsberg, New York, 30 December, 1963
